FAQs

So uh, what are French macarons?

Unlike the coconut macaroons you may have heard of (spelled with two O's), French macarons are sandwich-like cookies made with two delicate meringue shells, which are made with whipped egg whites, almond flour, and sugar. These are then filled with buttercream, ganache, or other fillings to create versatile and unique desserts.

Are your macarons/Macarownies/(insert anything we make) gluten free?

Absolutely everything we make is gluten-free! However, though we do not produce anything with gluten, we are not an officially gluten-free certified facility, nor are most of the manufacturers of some of the gluten-free ingredients we use. Therefore, we cannot promise very slight cross-contamination of gluten which may affect some extremely hypersensitive individuals.

Are they dairy free?

Not right now, but we are working on options for the future. All macaron fillings contain dairy.

Are they nut free?

Our macarons are made with almond flour and are made where other nuts and tree nuts are prepared and stored. As we do have some flavors with ingredients that contains nuts (like peanuts), we cannot rule out the risk of cross contamination. If you have a nut or tree nut allergy, let us know. We also do have the ability to make almond-free macarons for special order. Please contact us for more info.

What do you mean by "Made the Italian Way?"

Most macaron places are making their macs using the French method of making meringue and buttercream. Our macarons are made using the Italian method, which involves cooking the sugar before adding it to the egg whites. This method is definitely more difficult and time-consuming, but makes for a softer yet more stable macaron shell.

Do you have a shop I can visit?

We do now! We just opened our first location at Eastdale Village in Poughkeepsie, New York. Click here to learn more.

Why are macarons more expensive than normal cookies?

Yes, macarons are more expensive than, say, a chocolate chip cookie. However, we use the absolute highest quality California almond flour, as well as locally sourced butter and eggs. Every batch is also hand-piped, hand-matched for symmetrical-ness, filled by hand, sometimes dipped or piped with a topping, and takes many more hours to complete compared to your standard cookie.

Why is shipping "expensive"/cost more to certain areas?

We want your macarons to be as fresh as possible when you receive them, meaning we do not compromise on shipping. A cheap shipping rate doesn't really matter if it takes two weeks to get your order. We aim to have most orders delivered from our bakery to you in less than 48 hours. We analyze all shipments in terms of most reliable shipping method, current weather conditions, and time of delivery. In order to ensure that your order arrives as fresh as possible, some parts of the US require air shipping. Also in warmer climates, we use higher quality insulation as well as multiple ice packs. But we do offer free shipping to all areas for orders over $100! You can read more extensively about our unique shipping process here.

How long does my order take/why hasn't my order shipped yet?

From the time you place your order to pick-up by our carrier is typically 48 business hours. After that, shipping is usually 2-3 business days. Please wait up to 24 hours for your tracking information to update. Orders placed Thursdays will most likely ship on Monday of next week. (UPS is now delivering in many areas on Saturdays, which allows us to send to some areas later in the week.) This is because we would rather hold on to your order and keep it safe than have it sit in transit over the weekend. We analyze the journey of every order to make sure that it gets to you as quickly and as fresh as possible. If you absolutely need your order by a certain date, please contact us and we probably can make it happen. Larger orders may take an extra day or two to fulfill.

Will my macarons last in the mail?

Yes. We have done a ton of research on keeping macarons cool in transit, no matter where you are! If your macarons get delayed in shipping or you feel that they aren't fresh when you receive them (usually meaning are overly crumbly), please reach out and let us know at support@amandasmacaronshoppe.com.

Do you make custom order macarons?

Yes! Fill out our custom order inquiry form so we can get in touch!

Do you wholesale your macarons?

Yes! Email us at wholesale@amandasmacaronshoppe.com

How long do macarons last?

We ship our macarons sealed and frozen, which helps keep them fresh for their journey to you. We recommend putting them in the freezer until ready to serve for ultimate freshness. This way, they last at least a month. Let them sit out for about 15 minutes before eating. They’ll also stay fresh about a week in the fridge. Macarons tend to get crumbly and crunchy when left out too long.

Can I order online and pick up at the shop?

Yes! Please allow 2 business days to pack your order to be ready for pick up. We also offer DoorDash and GrubHub, which you can choose to either have delivered locally same-day or pick up in-store for no extra charge.
